Seven relaxing trips for recharging your batteries

Beachfront resorts, sports vacations, foodie getaways, outdoor pursuits—there are countless ways to relax and recharge when you travel. Whatever your activity or destination of choice, I’m convinced that the most important thing is to take some time to unwind and simply chill. Read on for some inspiring ideas for your next relaxing getaway.

Suggested destinations to relax and recharge

Hot springs in Iceland

Because of its geography, Iceland is brimming with natural hot springs and spas. At just a few hours away by plane, it’s the perfect destination for people who want to enjoy the benefits of thermal baths. Some of the pools are completely natural while others are man-made—take your pick (or try both!). Make the most of your trip by hiking across the Icelandic countryside to admire the volcanoes and spectacular scenery.

The Canadian outdoors

Turn off your phone and head for the great Canadian outdoors! What I love about this type of getaway is that it’s simple enough to be a spur-of-the-moment thing. Whether you opt for a day trip or a longer stay, there’s an endless assortment of outdoor activities to enjoy. Personally, I have a soft spot for the Canadian Rockies but with so many national parks in Canada, you’re bound to find just what you’re looking for. No matter which activity is calling your name, a getaway in the great outdoors is guaranteed to leave you feeling refreshed.

Surf and yoga retreat in Costa Rica

If there’s one thing I can count on for complete relaxation every single time, it’s a vacation by the beach including surfing, yoga, and meditation. And there’s one place that makes it easy to do just that—Costa Rica. These getaways are totally carefree because everything is usually on site, and they deliver relaxation for the mind as well as the body. If you ask me, it’s the perfect way to recharge. Whenever I need a break, this is my getaway of choice.

Skiing or snowboarding in Japan

Physical activity is a great way to combat stress. That’s why I love to include sports in my vacations. Japan has incredible mountains and is said to have some of the best ski resorts on the planet. Add in some Japanese-style après-ski and you’ve got all the ingredients for an exotic change of scenery!

Caribbean cruise

I’ve always thought of cruises as the ultimate travel experience when you want to decompress and have fun. Once on board all you need to do is relax—there’s very little you need to plan or organize yourself. Slip into your swimsuit, layer on the sunscreen, and get ready to lounge in the sun. Relaxation guaranteed!

Foodie tour in Italy

From the markets of Tuscany to the restaurants of Rome and Milan, the food in Italy has always been a destination in itself. There are local flavours to discover from one end of the country to the other, and it’s easy to get around by train, car, or by organized tours. Your taste buds will thank you as you sample the regional food and wine. What a delicious vacation! My mouth is already watering just thinking about it.

Hammams in Morocco

What would a trip to Morocco be without a visit to a hammam? A hammam is a steam bath where you can be pampered with a relaxing body treatment. They are found all over the country, so it’s easy to include a hammam in your itinerary or even to plan a trip based entirely on visiting the best hammams in Morocco.

I hope my list has inspired you! In my view, travel and vacations should always be about wellness. A getaway is a unique opportunity to take some time for yourself. Usually a quick escape from the everyday hustle and bustle is enough to help me unwind. I believe that every trip should include at least a little bit of time for chilling and taking a break from the routine. And as we’ve seen, there are many ways you can do just that. Even when I’m planning an active vacation, I always allow for a few days of pure relaxation so when I get back home, I’m revitalized from head to toe.
