If you are planning a trip to Jamaica, you need a valid Canadian passport to enter the country. Tourists are not required to get a travel visa for trips of up to six months; however, proof of a return ticket and sufficient funds for your stay may be required. You will need to fill out a Jamaican immigration entry card, which is provided on your flight, you will also be asked to complete one on departure as well. A visa is required for students and for business travel. There is a departure tax of $20 USD, which is included in the cost of airfare.

As with other Caribbean countries, hurricane season is from June to November; however, the weather tends to clear up in October, and the peak travel season is from December to April. The average temperature ranges from 25°C in November to April, to 29°C in May to October.

Crime and theft can be an issue in major cities such as Kingston and Montego Bay, and although resort areas are generally safe for travellers, it is recommended that Canadians travel with caution. Possession of illegal drugs are a severe offense, and you may be screened for drug possession upon departure. The currency in the country is the Jamaican dollar (JMD), but the US dollar is widely accepted. If you plan on driving, note that traffic drives on the left side of the road.
