You are eligible to purchase Rainy Day coverage if you:
- re a Canadian resident enrolled in a provincial health insurance plan
- Purchase at least one of the following: Emergency Medical Care (EMC) and/or Trip Cancellation and Interruption coverage
- Are travelling on a single trip of up to 28 days to one of these destinations: Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Canada, or Europe
- Buy your contract online a minimum of 14 days before your departure date
Good to know: Coverage applies to the location chosen at the time of purchase. Each contract covers one location address only.
No compensation will be paid in the following situations:
- When the rainfall amount does not reach the covered precipitation threshold indicated at the time of purchase.
- When rainfall occurs outside the covered time period at your insured location.
- When rainfall is measured at a location other than the one specified at the time of purchase.
- For weather conditions other than rain (such as hail, snow, sleet or ice).
- For any loss of or damage to property, regardless of the cause.
- When rainfall occurs on days subject to the applicable deductible.

The covered precipitation threshold is the minimum amount of rainfall that must be recorded at your insured location during the covered period for the day to qualify as a covered rainy day.
This precipitation threshold:
• is set when you purchase your coverage
• is based on your insured location, travel dates, and the exact address entered at your insured location
• can differ from one trip to another
Rainfall is tracked daily using data from an official weather station during the covered time period at your insured location.
Rainfall is monitored automatically using data from an official weather station linked to the address of the insured location provided when you purchased your coverage.
Precipitation is measured every day during the covered time period at your insured location.
Drizzle is also considered a form of precipitation when measuring rainfall.
No action is required during your trip and you do not need to submit any proof.
No. A rainy day qualifies only if the rainfall measured during the covered period reaches the precipitation threshold outlined in your coverage.
Depending on your contract, a Rainy Day deductible may also apply. Rainy days that fall within the deductible period are not eligible for compensation.
Any deductible applicable to your coverage is specified at the time of purchase according to your insured location and the time of year during which you travel.
Rainy Day deductible means the number of days during which the precipitation threshold is exceeded without giving rise to compensation. This number is indicated on your insurance certificate and varies based on the insured location, the time of year during which you travel, and available historical weather data.
You receive $100 for each covered rainy day, per contract, regardless of how many people are insured.
The final payment amount is determined after any applicable Rainy Day deductible is applied and includes only eligible covered rainy days.
Example:
If your trip includes 5 covered rainy days and your contract has a 1-day deductible, your total payment will be $400.
No. There is no claim form to complete and no proof of rainfall is required.
Rainfall is verified automatically using official weather data.
At the end of your coverage period, if one or more covered rainy days were recorded, you will receive an email with a link to request your payment.
Payments are issued by Interac e-Transfer.
After your coverage period ends, you will receive an email with a link to submit your payment request. Once completed, payment is processed within 2 business days.
Rainy Day coverage applies to one location address entered at the time of purchase.
Rainy Day coverage must be purchased online at the same time as Emergency Medical Care and/or Trip Cancellation and Interruption coverage.
Rainy Day coverage cannot be added after purchase either by phone or through your Customer Space.
